Legal
Terms of Use
1) Acceptance of these Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Mumr (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the App. Mumr is provided by an independent developer based in the United Kingdom ("Mumr", "we", "us").
2) The App & Apple's Standard EULA
Mumr is distributed through the Mac App Store. Your use of the App is also governed by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (Standard EULA). Where these Terms conflict with the Standard EULA, the Standard EULA controls to the extent applicable.

3) What Mumr does
Mumr is a meeting recorder for macOS. It can:
- record your microphone and your Mac's system audio,
- transcribe the recording on your Mac (Apple Speech, WhisperKit, or Parakeet),
- generate a summary using an AI engine you choose — Apple Intelligence, a local
claude/codexCLI, or a cloud provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, OpenRouter) using your own key, - optionally start recording automatically based on your calendar,
- store the audio, transcript, and summary locally in a folder you choose.
How Mumr handles data is described in our Privacy Policy.
4) Recording responsibly — your legal obligation
Recording laws vary by country, state, and situation. Some places require that everyone on a call consents before it can be recorded; others require only one party. You are solely responsible for knowing and complying with the laws that apply to you and to the people you record.
By using Mumr you agree that:
- you will obtain any consent or give any notice that the law requires before recording a conversation, call, or meeting;
- you have the right to record the audio you capture and to process it as you direct (including sending a transcript to a cloud AI you select);
- you will not use Mumr to record people unlawfully, or to harass, surveil, stalk, or deceive anyone.
Mumr is a tool; the decision to record, and responsibility for that decision, is yours.
5) Bring your own AI
For cloud summaries, Mumr uses your own account and API key with the provider you select (Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter). When you choose a cloud backend:
- your transcript text is sent directly from your Mac to that provider — it does not pass through any Mumr server;
- your use of that provider is governed by that provider's own terms and privacy policy, and you are responsible for any usage costs they charge;
- you are responsible for keeping your API keys secure and for the content you submit.
If you choose Apple Intelligence or a local CLI, summarisation runs on your Mac and no transcript is sent to a third-party cloud by Mumr.
6) Optional CLI integration (advanced)
Mumr can run summaries through a command-line tool you install yourself, by placing a wrapper script in ~/Library/Application Scripts/com.mumr.app/. This is an optional, advanced feature:
- Mumr does not install, supply, or update the script — you do, at your own discretion and risk.
- The script runs as a local process with the access you grant it. You are responsible for what it does, including any network calls it makes and any tools or accounts it uses.
7) Who can use Mumr
You must be legally able to accept these Terms where you live. If you are under the age of digital consent in your region, a parent or guardian must agree to these Terms and supervise your use.
8) Acceptable use
You agree to use Mumr lawfully and not to:
- break any applicable law, including recording, privacy, wiretap, or data-protection laws;
- reverse engineer, decompile, or tamper with the App except where that right cannot be excluded by law;
- interfere with the App's operation or use it to infringe anyone's rights.
9) Price
Mumr is currently free, with no subscription and no in-app purchases. We may, in future, offer optional paid features (for example a managed-AI tier); if we do, any purchase would be processed by Apple, your billing relationship would be with Apple, and the existing free features described here would remain free.
10) Intellectual property
The App, its name, design, interface, and assets are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by intellectual-property laws. Except as the law or the Apple Standard EULA allows, you may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of the App. Your recordings, transcripts, and summaries are yours — we claim no rights over the content you create with Mumr.
11) Third-party services
Mumr depends on third-party services, each governed by its own terms: Apple (App Store, macOS, Apple Intelligence, iCloud Keychain), the AI provider you select (Anthropic, OpenAI, or OpenRouter), Hugging Face (transcription-model downloads), and our analytics/crash tools (PostHog, Sentry). We are not responsible for third-party services, which may change or become unavailable.
12) Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available." To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not guarantee that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Transcripts and AI summaries can be inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading. Do not rely on them as a verbatim or authoritative record. Always check anything important against the original audio. AI summaries are generated by third-party models and may contain errors.
13) Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages;
- we are not responsible for loss or corruption of data caused by device failure, deletion, OS updates, your own actions, or third-party services (including Apple backup/sync features);
- we are not responsible for costs you incur with a third-party AI provider, or for how that provider handles data you send it;
- we are not responsible for any consequences of recording carried out in breach of applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.
14) Termination
You may stop using Mumr at any time by deleting it. We may suspend or end your right to use the App if you materially breach these Terms, to the extent permitted by law. Deleting the App removes its local settings; your saved recordings remain in the folder you chose until you delete them.
15) Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If a change is material, we'll update the "Last updated" date above and, where feasible, note it on the website or in the App. Continuing to use Mumr after an update means you accept the updated Terms.
16) Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England & Wales, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of London, England will have jurisdiction, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your country of residence require otherwise.
